Few points about human eye .

The human eye is a highly developed sense organ that detects visual images. These images are carried to the brain in order for it to recognize them by nerves . To protect the eye from physical injury, it is enclosed in an orbit made up of the skull, and in front of it, a number of layers shield the eye and keep it moist with the aid of various glands.

Cornea, the front surface of the eyeball, must always be moist for optimum vision. The blink reflex keeps the eyes wet. By dispersing tears on the outer surface of your eye, blinking lubricates and cleans your eyes. The Retina contains a collection of light-sensitive nerves that can be easily damaged by excessive light exposure.

Computer screens vs your eyesight.

We have a problem  that , long computer hours have a negative impact on our eyesight. Is there any truth to this? In the past, we mostly interacted with only a few different types of LED screens. However, with technological advancement and current circumstances, interacting with computers, mobile phones, and other devices in our daily lives has become common.

So we have to use computers or mobile phones for a long period of time during the day, and we get tired at the end of the day .

We can find scientific facts to answer the above question. According to modern medical identifications, computers will not permanently damage your eyes, but they may cause eye strains and other uncomfortable eye conditions. These negative effects can occur not only with computers, but also with mobile phones.

Symptoms that may occur as a result of long computer hours.

Eye strains.

Eye stain is a common condition that occurs when your eyes become tired due to prolonged use of computer . This may result in headaches and eye discomfort. Eye strain is caused by insufficient rest periods and incorrect working conditions.

You glare at your computer screen to see what’s on it when it’s too bright or too dark. As a result, your eye muscles become tired, and you must exert additional effort to see images on the screen. This makes a significant contribution to eye strain.

When you move your phone’s screen down or up, you may notice that your eyes become uneasy. This is because your eye must exert a great deal of effort to change its focus in a very short period of time. In those cases, your eye muscles become tired and can cause eye strain.

The incorrect position of the computer screen is another major source of eye strain. Our eyes are configured to look straight ahead and slightly downward. When you try to look in different directions, your eyes have to work harder for it .So  when a computer screen is not properly positioned, it can cause eye strain too.

Dry eyes.

When you work with computers or mobile phones, you stare at them for extended periods of time without blinking. Blinking is a process that keeps your eyes moist, and when it takes long intervals between blinks, your eyes will dry. You may experience burning, itching, or dryness in your eyes during this time.

Blur vision.

Blurred vision and difficulty focusing can also occur as a result of spending too much time in front of a computer. This can cause as a result of exposure to blue light emitted by computers and mobile phones.

What is blue light and how it affects on your eyes ?

The electromagnetic spectrum is made up of various types of rays with varying wave lengths. Some of them are visible, while others are not. The visible light is composed of seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and indigo.

Among them, blue has the highest energy level and thus emits the most energy. As a result, this blue light penetrates your retina and corneal lenses. When exposed to blue light, the nerve complex in the retina is damaged, which can cause various disorders in your body and have a negative impact on your eyesight.

However, the main natural source of blue light is sunlight, which has both positive and negative effects on our bodies.

Computers, mobile phones, and televisions with LED screens emit a high amount of blue light as well, and this artificial blue light is harmful to us.

How to Reduce Eye Damage Caused by Computer Screens .

There are several methods for shielding your eyes from computer screens. The first step is to keep your screen straight ahead and slightly down according to your eye position. Maintain a distance of 16 to 30 inches between your computer and your eyes. The screen’s top margin must be at eye level.

Your computer room should not be too brightly lit, but it should also not be too dark. As a result, adjusting the brightness of the screen based on your surround light is critical. You can do it quickly by using a white paper, such as copy paper. Adjust the brightness of the display to match the brightness of the paper under the lighting in the room as closely as possible. This will set the brightness to a eye comfortable level.

You can use eye comfort shields and dark mode in modern computers and mobile phones to adjust the brightness of their screens.

Furthermore, if the room in which you do your computer work is air conditioned, this air conditioner should not be placed in front of you , because it can cause to increase the dryness of your eyes.

Blink frequently.

This may sound strange, but as previously stated, blinking moistens our eyes. Do you know that when you stare at the screens, you blink less? You can reduce dry eyes symptoms by blinking frequently while using computer screens rather than staring at them.

You can use artificial tears too to avoid dryness of your eyes. They are eye drops use to lubricate dry eyes and maintain the moisture of the outer surface of your eye.

20 – 20 -20 rule.

When working with computer screens, your eyes require rest. So, for every 20 minutes of screen time, take a minimum 20-second break by looking at something 20 feet away.  This is 20 -20-20 law and this will assist you in reducing eye strain.

It is also recommended to take a break , for every 2 hours you work with computer , because your eyes need rest. You can reduce eye damage caused by computer screens , in above ways .

Conclusion.

You now understand how computer screens affect your eyes and how to resist these negative effects. Computer screens may not cause permanent eye damage, but they may cause irritating eye problems as above.

But it is important to remember that the long computer hours, however, can lead to other potential problems such as obesity, sleep problems, chronic neck and back problems, depression, anxiety, and lower test scores in children. So to work while remaining healthy, you must properly and efficiently manage your time with computers and mobile phones.
